*Brainspirations is a series by Jason, aimed to provide nuggets of wisdom during his healing journey. It's about sharing love and insights to help others navigate through life's ups and downs.
Here’s a little piece of reflection, hoping it finds YOU and sparks a moment of empowerment.
Ah, the sweet relief! Breathing feels lighter suddenly.
It’s not merely about the ease of breathing, but the silence that follows the storm of overthinking. It appears that overthinking is a sticky companion, quite tough to shake off. If you're in the overthinkers' club like me, you know the drill. And if you aren’t, perhaps you have mastered the art of concealing it or steering your awareness adeptly. Either way, it’s just a slice of the human experience.
Overthinking is a byproduct of our inherent trait as imagination machines. Yes, even you, who claims, “I’m not a bit creative!” You are, just that your creativity dons a different guise.
We spin stories, a trait as ancient as our existence. Our DNA has a knack for borrowing bits from various narratives to concoct a story, especially when we are keen on completing the loop of a thought.
It’s amusing, if not bewildering. We often craft a narrative that feeds our stress, majorly rooted in fear, and hardly ever painting us as the hero in our own story.
I’ve realized, I dread the anticipation leading up to my MRIs. This is a reality I need to make peace with, given they are on my calendar every four weeks. Why the dread? My imagination runs wild, crafting fear-laden stories as the MRI date approaches, serving me a hearty dish of stress.
Is this ordeal beneficial? A big NO!
Then why the indulgence?
It mirrors the countless times we talk ourselves out of pursuing what we desire. It begins as a hopeful thought, but swiftly, we conjure a myriad of reasons to postpone it until ‘tomorrow’.
But will ‘tomorrow’ ever dawn?
Here’s a tiny ritual I've adopted as I settle into the MRI machine. I inhale deeply, shut my eyes, and whisper to myself the affirmations I dodged for so long - “I love you. You’re safe. You’re healed. You’re whole.” And voila, I find my breath and calm once again.
Another round, and the skies are still clear. You got this, buddy!
Thank you for the heartwarming vibes that keep flowing in! ❤️🙏❤️
