Why Letting Go Feels So Hard
Why do so many of us struggle with letting go? We know it’s often the best thing to do, but still, we hold on. It’s not ignorance—we’re fully aware. Maybe it’s out of spite, but even then, what’s the point? We each have our own reasons for hanging on, reasons only we truly understand. And even when we can define those reasons, we still cling tightly. How often do we tell a friend going through a tough time, “You just gotta let that go!” It’s so easy to say, yet incredibly hard to do.
Personal Insight: My Journey with Letting Go
There was a time when I got so good at offering advice that I lost my sense of self. I convinced myself that by putting everyone else first, life would eventually hand me the relief I was looking for—without having to let go. But it didn’t work out that way. Instead, it fed my feelings of unworthiness. It wasn’t until my diagnosis that I was forced to see things differently. Trust me, I wish it hadn’t taken something so drastic, but letting go of what I thought I needed helped me find what truly made me feel whole.
The Trap of Holding On to the Past
This challenge isn’t just about letting go of pain. Have you ever clung to past joys, wishing things could be like they used to be? Holding onto the “good old days” can be just as harmful. Time keeps moving, and when we hold onto joy or pain for too long, we end up hurting ourselves. Falling into the trap of wishing or waiting for perfection is just as self-destructive. Wishing and dreaming are great, but without action, they remain just ideas. We need to bring those dreams to life, and that requires action.
Embracing the Present by Letting Go
We might need to let go of everything to move forward, and that’s okay. Dwelling on doubt, fear, or even joy can blind us to the life happening around us. It can be frustrating but good and bad feelings are part of the normal human experience. If we refuse to let go, we can miss out on life’s breathtaking moments and valuable lessons. Letting go doesn’t mean dismissing everything; it means taking in what life offers, reflecting on it, learning from it, and then allowing it to pass. This approach leads to a life well-lived. We shouldn’t wait until we’re old to look back and regret what we’ve missed. Instead, let’s celebrate the magic life offers every day. Start by letting go to welcome the life that’s waiting to unfold through and as you. You’ve got this!
Power-Up Challenge:
This week, identify one thing—whether it’s a past joy or a pain—that you’ve been holding onto for too long. How it’s affecting your present? Then, take one small action to start letting it go. It might be as simple as acknowledging it and setting an intention to release it. Remember, letting go isn’t about forgetting; it’s about making room for new experiences and growth.
Closing Thoughts:
Thank you for taking the time to explore this journey with me. Remember, letting go isn’t about losing; it’s about gaining something even more valuable—freedom to live fully in the present. Keep pushing forward, and know that you’re not alone on this path. We’re all in this together, learning, growing, and becoming the best versions of ourselves. 💙 PowerUp
