Embracing Your Limitless Potential
You are limitless in every area of your life. This might seem overstated given where you may find yourself right now. But before you toss this thought into the pile of ‘yeah rights,’ let’s explore it a bit.
In our social media world, it can feel like everyone around you is achieving greatness every moment. Remember, we see the highlights, not the lowlights. For every person you think has “made it,” there are thousands who are still where that person once was. Comparing yourself to others, thinking their achievements are too big for you even to scratch the surface, steals your joy. The idea of ‘perfection’ will never be your friend and is the biggest con artist you’ll ever meet.
Personal Insight: My Relationship with Perfection
I had a pretty healthy relationship with perfection in one area of my life—being creative. It’s always been easy for me to make something and forget it, not really falling in love with what I made or worrying if anyone would like it. Now, when it came to my relationship with myself, that was different. I spent way too much time criticizing myself, holding myself to an unreachable standard, and giving myself a healthy dose of shame, shade, and self-loathing. That’s not to say I placed limits on myself because I’ve always been a huge dreamer. Managing the relationship between myself and my dreams was the challenge. I’ve always felt I could create anything, much like a builder knows they can build anything with plans, parts, and practice. I had the belief but needed to figure out how to match it with love and grace for myself. And that’s where my brain buddy stepped in to deliver this gift.
Breaking Free from Limited Thinking
Isn’t it strange how we can talk ourselves back into limited thinking after we’ve let our minds stretch to great heights? Let’s say you love skyscrapers. You travel to various cities just to take in the details of these beautiful structures. It sets your heart on fire! But then you think, “How will I ever be able to do this? All I am is a barista!” Right now, you can build a massive skyscraper in your mind. While handing out lattes, you imagine all the details of the buildings you would create. You keep notes in your phone, save images, and share them online. It’s reasonable to think that while you may not be a builder, with a little research, you can figure out what is needed to bring that image to life.
So you don’t know where to begin. Should that stop you? Our world is full of amazing things that started with someone who had no clue where to begin but knew they had to start. This is our role as creators: to begin, to find the path, to trust in the hope we feel, and to see what happens. It will unravel as we move. You could be one coffee away from meeting an investor, contractor, or mentor. It all comes back to our willingness to move and step in a direction that may not seem clear now, knowing that with action, clarity will follow.
